The month of October is lovingly known as #Preptober to writers and authors around the world. Anyone in on this remarkably open and supportive secret society of writers recognizes this exciting month as the month to prep and get your outline out of the way for November. So now that that is out of the way, we’re kicking off November strong with a word sprints, wars and outright competition among our writers!
You Should Be Writing! No really, you should.
If you’re not in on it yet, well, you should be. National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo is a crazy month in which writers around the globe fall off the face of the earth and neglect their chores at home. If you happen to want to find that writer in your life there is a good chance you will find them hunched over a notebook or their laptop with headphones on at their local coffee shop with other like-minded souls. Don’t worry, the laundry, dinner and the dishes will get done… in December.
Well Shucks, it’s already November and it’s too late!
It’s never too late to get involved!
It doesn’t matter if it’s day one or day 15. The goal here is to get words on the page. So hop on over to Nanowrimo.org and sign up! Even though this is a month-long event, you will find many other writers and actual published authors just like you with the same goal. There are local groups that continue to meet throughout the year both in-person and through-out the year. Events span a few different types from casual get-togethers in quiet coffee shops, silent retreats, Halloween night kick-off parties and even virtual communities.
Look in your area for local NaNoWriMo Groups through their website. There are also several groups on Facebook, Slack and Discord as well. Get to know your local writers and authors and they will point you to the treasure trove of resources at your disposal! Just wait, there is inspiration on the horizon!
P.S. If you are local to the Austin area then here are some great groups for you!
